Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. I am a fee-only advisor with no financial relationship with any brokerage firms, insurance companies, or money managers. As a fiduciary I am committed to always putting your best interest first. With these two characteristics I feel I can provide the most objective advice possible, focusing solely on providing advice based on your needs and goals.

What education and experience do you have?

My undergraduate and masters degrees were in Finance and Real Estate. My doctorate also focused on Finance. In addition, I hold managing broker licenses in Indiana and Illinois, where my real estate business has been based out of since 2003. Finally, I obtained my Certified Financial Planner designation.

I am the acting CFP Program Director where I focus on educating students that seek to engage in the planning profession. I have also been volunteering my planning services for several years before deciding to formalize my arrangement.

What continuing education in financial planning do you pursue?

In order to maintain CFP designations, I must complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years. As a member of NAPFA (The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors), I must complete 60 hours of continuing education every two years. However, given that I am also a program director this tends to only be the beginning of the continuing education I complete since I also need to create unique research for publication purposes.

Do you have any disciplinary citations again you?

No. I do not have any in either the financial or real estate industry.

Who will be working on my planning?

I will always be the one working on your planning. At times I may offer discounted services and have a financial planning student assist to further develop their planning skills. However, this would always be under my direction and would never be done without your written consent and understanding.

What is included in your financial planning services?

I assist in the refinement of your goals and offer advice on areas ranging from cash management, investment analysis and planning, tax planning, retirement, and estate planning. Beyond this I also offer real estate investment services for clients that may need help evaluating parcels for acquisition or disposition and determine how the decision can complement the financial plan. Do you recommend specific investments or investment vehicles?

Yes, I want to make sure that you are adequately diversified and that your portfolio reflects the appropriate amount of risk. However, the focus is on investment classes and vehicles and not individual stocks. I am not interested in any form of stock picking and unless you have resources you are comfortable putting at risk, I would not support this.

Do you offer continuous, ongoing advice regarding my financial affairs, including advice on non-investment financial issues?

YES! For most individuals planning is not a once and done endeavor. I also believe that ongoing relationships and accountability lead to a plan being implemented. I am intentionally maintaining a small practice since I want to be contacted when you are thinking about securing a large purchase or when you are expected to sign up for employee benefits.

Do you take possession of, or have access to my assets?

No. I will never have direct access.

How is your firm compensated? Do you have account minimums?

As a fee-only planner my only compensation is received directly as fees. I have no financial relationships with other firms. I may receive a fixed plan fee or a real estate investment analysis fee. In addition to this I encourage clients to sign up for a monthly subscription for at least the first year. I want clients to take advantage of reaching out as needed and not feel they have to wait until a scheduled meeting.

There are no account minimum requirements. I am not compensated as a percentage of assets under management and will not use this to screen potential clients.

Is your firm registered as an Investment Advisor?

Yes, the registration is held at the state level (Arkansas)

How Do I Get Started?

We start with an introductory meeting. This will not obligate you to anything, but it gives us an opportunity to define goals and expectations and determine if we are a good fit. This, and any subsequent meetings, can be held in person or online through platforms like Zoom. If we decide that we are a good fit for one another we would follow a schedule similar to what you see below. If you are only interested in real estate advising and consulting then this can be done with-in a week’s time of receiving all relevant information.

What types of clients do you typically work with?

I work with individuals and families. While I have the foundations to assist clients across many demographics I focuson real estate. With my specialization in real estate I am uniquely equipped to help clients that have, or plan to have, real estate holdings.

How will I pay for your financial planning services?

I am a fee-only financial planner and work solely for my clients. Fees for planning are generally billed at the time thepreliminary report is produced and due prior to the final product. The monthly subscription will take place on the date the final report is provided. If you have requested a strict hourly request for advising that would be paid at time of appointment setting.

What is Minas?

Minas is a reference to the parable from Luke 19:11-27. In this parable the king charges his servants to faithfully manage his resources (minas) upon his departure. Upon the kings return the first servant is commended for his work. In verse 17 the king tells the servant “Well done, good and faithful servant”. I seek to manage my resources (e.g. time, energy, and service) in a way that will one day earn me a similar praise from my King saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP® in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
